CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Toyota Tundra

Summary
With 58 currently listed for sale and an average price of $34,725 CAD, 19.0% of 2018 Toyota Tundra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota Tundra 4.7 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota Tundra stands out as a full-size pickup that leans heavily on durability, strong resale value, and a broad set of standard safety equipment rather than chasing the most modern or luxurious cabin in the segment. It is part of the second generation, which is described as generally having higher reliability ratings than either the first or current generations, and that reputation is a major part of its appeal for buyers who want a truck they can keep for the long haul. At the same time, the buying guide notes that the interior quality has often been called cheap and that the truck lacks a diesel option, so it is not the most polished choice in its class.
For 2018, Toyota Safety Sense-P became standard on all trucks, adding adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning across the lineup. That same year also brought the TRD Sport package. The second-generation Tundra already offered a wide range of configurations, including multiple cab and bed combinations, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and V6 and V8 engine options, which helped make it versatile for different buyers. It also had practical touches such as a 100-litre fuel tank, an available back-up camera, and a centre console large enough to stow a laptop.
There are trade-offs, though. The buying guide says the Tundra often costs more than its domestic competition, and the pros and cons list calls out poor forward visibility and the lack of a bargain-priced work truck. Even so, the 2018 Toyota Tundra remains appealing for shoppers who value proven toughness, strong resale value, and a truck that has earned a reputation for being solid over the long haul.

Toyota Tundra is what expected of from a towing capacity of a powered V8 / 5.7L 4 × 4 vehicle. Lots of leg room.

Toyotas are generally bullet proof. This is my fourth and it has basically solidified a brand-loyalty when car shopping. The Tundra is a terrific truck. Almost everything an F150, Sierra or Ram can do, the Tundra does better. It definitely rides better than any truck out there. It tows just like the others, hauls just like the others and looks better than the others. It is a rather thirsty truck however. I get 15-17 city/highway like clockwork. Not great mileage but let me qualify that by saying that those numbers are consistent no matter how Im driving. The Tundra is easily modified should you choose to do so. Ive put a cold air intake and stainless, aftermarket exhaust on mine and it has definitely improved already good performance. Those mods were easily done at home too. I say get a Tundra before the new breed of six cylinder supplants the V8 and hang on to it!

How much does the 2018 Toyota Tundra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $34,883 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $33,452 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $40,461 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $40,461 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −13.78% |
Prices have softened 13.78% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 57 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2018 Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the 4.7/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its reliability, smooth drive, and solid performance, and many also like the spacious interior and available features, especially in higher trims. The overview also frames it as a good fit if you want a full-size pickup that prioritises durability, strong resale value, and long-haul usefulness over a more luxurious cabin. With 21.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as reliable, and the review summary also highlights its dependable nature, smooth drive, and solid performance. That lines up with its reputation for being a truck you can count on over the long haul, especially if you value durability over flash. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a tough, older truck can still bring age-related wear, so condition and maintenance history matter.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota Tundra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 21.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 57 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.78% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $33,452 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $34,883 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,461 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be helpful if you're buying now but less favourable if you're planning to sell soon. Even so, the Tundra's reputation for durability and long-haul ownership helps support demand. If you keep the truck in strong condition, the softer current pricing may still work in your favour when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 21.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want a full-size pickup with proven durability, strong resale appeal, and a solid owner satisfaction record. If you are especially price-sensitive, nearby years can still be worth comparing, but the 2018 stands out as a sensible choice when you want long-term confidence and a market that is giving you some negotiating room.
