Its 2.5-litre engine and CVT are tuned more for efficiency and ease than excitement, and that generally suits long-term ownership if you prioritise calm, predictable driving. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the cabin or feature set and more about making sure the vehicle has been maintained properly over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lower trims use coarser fabric and harder plastics, while the SL adds a more upscale cabin with padded leather trim on the centre console, armrests, and dash, plus ribbed stitching on the seat inserts. The fully loaded SL Platinum is the most luxurious version mentioned.
• Powertrain: You get a single 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, paired with an Xtronic CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard on the S and SV, while all-wheel drive is optional on those trims and standard on the rest.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is Nissan’s semi-autonomous driving system, and it works with adaptive cruise control and the Rogue’s safety features. Blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, a rear-view camera, and 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are also mentioned, with ProPilot Assist available only on the SL.
• Infotainment: The Rogue’s infotainment system was redesigned for 2018, and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. A customizable home screen puts audio, phone, and navigation controls at the centre, and NissanConnect adds telematics features such as remote unlocking and automatic 911 notifications.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined for FWD models, while AWD models use 9.7 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 8.7 L/100 km combined. In testing, it averaged 9.8 L/100 km.

Which 2018 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, Midnight Edition, SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Rogue’s core practicality at the lowest starting price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most affordable way into the model and can live without the richer cabin materials and higher-end equipment found above it.
• SV: This is the best-value trim. It adds more equipment while staying close to the sweet spot in the lineup, and the cost-effectiveness content specifically points to the well-equipped AWD SV as the market sweet spot. If you want the most balanced mix of price, comfort, and features, this is the one to target.
• Midnight Edition: This is an SV with a blacked-out look, so it makes sense if styling matters more to you than maximum value. It’s the trim to choose if you want a more distinctive appearance without moving all the way up the range.
• SL: This is the trim for you if you want the most upscale Rogue experience, including the more premium cabin materials and access to ProPilot Assist. It’s the right pick if advanced driver assistance is a priority and you’re willing to pay more for it.

ProPilot Assist is available only on the SL, so if that system matters to you, you’ll need to shop at the top of the range.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 538 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,711 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $14,891 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,012 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Rogue has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one now, the softer market can work against you on trade-in value, especially if your vehicle is not especially well equipped or well maintained.

On the other hand, the Rogue’s broad appeal, comfort, and strong feature set help support demand among shoppers who want a practical compact SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2018 Rogue earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for all seat positions in side crash tests, but three-star ratings for the front passenger and four-star ratings for the driver in front-impact crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates it a Top Safety Pick, with Good ratings in all five crash tests and a Superior rating for its standard auto-braking system.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Rogue’s safety package includes blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, a rear-view camera, and standard auto-braking. ProPilot Assist is also part of the story, but it’s only available on the SL, so lower trims miss out on that advanced driver-assistance system.

The main caveat is the mixed NHTSA front-impact result, which is worth keeping in mind if crash-test performance is a top priority for you.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2018, the Rogue adds available ProPilot Assist and a redesigned infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The bottom line: If you want a used Rogue with strong comfort, useful tech, and a softer asking-price environment, the 2018 is a sensible choice. If you’re shopping mainly on price, you may also want to compare nearby years, but the 2018 stands out for its mix of value, safety equipment, and advanced driver assistance.
