CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Summary
With 97 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,984 CAD, 41.2% of 2018 Hyundai Tucson listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Hyundai Tucson 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Hyundai Tucson stands out as a compact SUV that gives shoppers a lot of equipment for the money while still feeling practical and easy to live with. It sits in the third generation, which brought a more refined look, a larger body, and more cargo capacity than before, and that broader improvement in space and polish is part of what made this Tucson appealing. Owners also tend to value its comfort, quiet ride, and strong mix of value and available technology.
For 2018, the Tucson’s available powertrains included a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 164 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, plus a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive was standard, with all-wheel drive available on most lower trims and standard on higher trims. The turbocharged version could accelerate to 100 km/h in about eight seconds, but the dual-clutch transmission could stumble and hesitate at low speeds, and the base engine was noticeably slower to reach highway speeds. Even so, the Tucson’s sharper handling helped it distinguish itself from many rivals.
Equipment was a major part of the appeal. In Canada, the 2018 Tucson was offered in five trim levels, and the base model included heated front seats, a 5-inch infotainment touchscreen, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a USB port with an iPod/iPhone interface. Higher trims added features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear vents, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and, on some versions, a panoramic sunroof and leather upholstery. The main drawbacks were the modest performance from the base engine and the occasional hesitation from the dual-clutch transmission, but for buyers who wanted a well-equipped small SUV with a comfortable ride and strong value, the 2018 Hyundai Tucson was an easy one to consider.

How much does the 2018 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,568 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,568 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,081 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,059 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.60% |
Prices have softened 14.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 578 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of choice when comparing trims and conditions.
Is the 2018 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the Tucson for its comfort, spaciousness, quiet ride, and value for money, while also appreciating the amount of equipment it offers. The overview also frames it as a practical compact SUV with more cargo capacity, a refined look, and a useful feature set, which makes it a sensible fit if you want everyday usability over flash. With 29.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience built around comfort, quietness, and value, which are all traits that tend to support confidence over time. The same feedback also points to a vehicle that many owners feel good about living with day to day, especially when it comes to the overall package and feature content. For used buyers, that suggests the bigger ownership risk is less about the Tucson’s appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained properly and suits your expectations for performance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Hyundai Tucson?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you are comparing multiple examples.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 578 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.60% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,568 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $14,568 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,059 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Tucson has become more accessible for buyers, which can also shape what future sellers should expect when they go to market. If you buy at today’s lower average, you may have less room for appreciation later, but you could still benefit from steady demand if the vehicle remains well kept and well equipped. The combination of value positioning and broad appeal should help it stay relevant with used shoppers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.60% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Tucson makes the most sense if you want a comfortable, well-equipped compact SUV with strong owner approval and a market that still offers some deal potential. If your priority is value and you like the earlier third-generation formula, this year is a solid place to land. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and asking price.
