What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base EcoBoost and GT models are the starting points, while Premium trim adds higher-quality materials, exposed contrast stitching, and available leather seats. If you want a more upscale cabin, the Premium versions are the ones to target.
• Powertrain: You can shop a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost or a V8 GT, with rear-wheel drive standard across the range. The GT’s 5.0-litre V8 makes 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, while the EcoBoost is the value-oriented choice.
• Safety package: The car includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and a driver monitoring system. The lane-keeping assist can detract from enjoyment, but it can be switched off.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a modern touchscreen setup, Bluetooth, available navigation, a rearview camera, and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, and Ford Sync Connect adds remote access through a smartphone app.
• Fuel efficiency: The GT is rated at 12.5 L/100 km in combined driving, and the EcoBoost is positioned as the more efficient choice if you want Mustang style with lower running costs.

Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 4 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the best-value starting point if you want Mustang style and a lower purchase price. It gives you the core look and rear-wheel-drive character without stepping into V8 territory.
• EcoBoost Premium: Choose this if you want the EcoBoost’s value but also want a nicer cabin with upgraded materials and the more upscale feel that comes with Premium trim.
• GT: This is the pick if performance is your priority. The V8 brings the Mustang’s strongest character, and it suits you best if you care more about power than cabin upgrades.
• GT Premium: This is the most complete mainstream choice if you want the V8 plus the better interior materials and extra polish. It’s the one to buy if you want the strongest blend of performance and comfort.

The safety package adds a broad set of driver-assistance features, but the lane-keeping assist can be intrusive for some drivers.

What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $24,644 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,775 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make future resale a little more competitive for sellers. If you buy at today’s average, you may have less immediate upside than someone who bought when prices were higher. Still, the Mustang’s strong enthusiast appeal helps support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The lane-keeping assist system is the main caveat, since it can detract from driving enjoyment.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 adds more sophisticated tech, stronger performance, and a more polished feel.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $29,653 CAD, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $24,644 CAD average.
• It adds Bullitt styling, extra power, and a more distinctive special-edition character.

The 2018 is the better buy if you want the stronger value proposition and broad availability. If you’re willing to pay more for a special-edition feel and extra exclusivity, the 2019 is the more emotional choice.
