What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GT Premium coupe sits at the higher end of the range and adds higher quality materials, exposed contrast stitching, and available aluminium carbon-pattern trim. Base cars are more basic inside, so you should check whether the cabin equipment matches what you want.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a V8 GT, with rear-wheel drive standard across the range. The GT’s 5.0-litre V8 makes 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, while the EcoBoost is the value play if you want lower running costs.
• Safety package: The Mustang includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist can be turned off if you find it intrusive.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a touchscreen interface, Bluetooth, available navigation, and a rearview camera. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, and Ford Sync Connect adds remote access through a smartphone app.
• Fuel efficiency: The GT is rated at 12.5 L/100 km in combined driving, and the review notes that the EcoBoost can get to 100 kilometres per hour a second or two later than the GT while offering better value at the pump.

Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 4 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the best-value choice if you want Mustang style and performance without stepping into V8 territory. It keeps the price closer to the lower end of the range and is the trim the review points to as the real value play.
• EcoBoost Premium: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine plus a more upscale cabin. It adds the interior upgrades that make the car feel less basic without moving all the way to GT pricing.
• GT: This is the pick for buyers who want the V8 experience first and foremost. It delivers the stronger performance character that defines the Mustang name.
• GT Premium: This is the most complete choice if you want the V8, the richer interior, and the most polished overall package. It suits you best if you want the Mustang’s performance and a more premium-feeling cabin.

For safety, note that the Mustang’s driver-assistance features are configurable through the driver information system, and the lane-keeping assist can be switched off if desired.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. The Mustang’s safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. These systems are tuned with performance driving in mind, and the lane-keeping assist can be disabled if it gets in the way. The main caveat is the IIHS small-overlap result, which is weaker than the rest of its crash-test performance.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 brings substantial mechanical and technological improvements, including a more sophisticated feel and stronger performance.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $30,288 CAD, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $26,118 CAD average.
• It adds Bullitt-specific styling and extra power for buyers who want a special-edition Mustang.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, performance, and available inventory, the 2018 is the smarter buy. If you are willing to pay more for a more distinctive special-edition feel, the 2019 is the more characterful choice. For price-sensitive shoppers, the 2018 remains the better starting point.
