What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: You’ll want to compare the EcoBoost, GT, and Premium versions carefully, because Premium trim adds higher-quality cabin materials and leather seating, while the base setup is more basic inside.
• Powertrain: The car is offered with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine or a V8, and the V8 brings much stronger output. The 10-speed automatic adds convenience, while the manual keeps the car more involved.
• Safety package: The Mustang includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. Some of these features are configurable, and the lane-keeping assist can be switched off if you find it intrusive.
• Infotainment: You get Sync 3 with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, Track Apps, Bluetooth, an available navigation system, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Ford Sync Connect for remote access through a smartphone app.
• Fuel efficiency: The GT is rated at 12.5 L/100 km in combined driving, and the review notes that the EcoBoost is the more efficient value choice if you want to keep running costs lower.

Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 3 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, and GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the value pick if you want Mustang style and fun without paying for V8 power. The review says the real value is found here, especially if you want strong performance for closer to the lower end of the price range.
• EcoBoost Premium: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine but also want a nicer cabin, since Premium trim upgrades the interior materials and adds a more upscale feel.
• GT Premium: This is the choice if you want the full V8 experience, stronger performance, and the most premium-feeling version described in the review. It suits you best if driving excitement matters more than budget.

The safety package includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 191 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.73% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $24,674 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $25,865 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,733 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more buyer-friendly, which can work against a future seller if you buy at the wrong point in the cycle. On the other hand, it also means you may be entering ownership at a more reasonable cost basis than buyers did a year ago.

If demand stays steady, a well-kept Mustang should remain appealing because it combines strong performance with broad enthusiast interest. The current price trend also suggests there is still room for value-conscious shoppers to find a fair entry point.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2018 Mustang earns an Acceptable rating from the IIHS for small-overlap frontal-impact protection, while earning Good ratings in other crash-test assessments. It also earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The system is calibrated for performance driving, and most features can be adjusted through the driver information system.

One caveat is that the lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment, though you can shut it off. The IIHS small-overlap result is also worth keeping in mind if safety performance is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Ford added substantial mechanical and technological improvements, making this version feel more polished and sophisticated.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $29,221 CAD, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $25,865 CAD average.
• It adds Bullitt-specific styling and a stronger sense of occasion.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2018 is the smarter buy because it combines strong owner satisfaction with softer pricing. If you’re willing to pay more for a special-edition feel, the 2019 is the more distinctive choice.
