CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Sienna
Summary
With 96 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,831 CAD, 28.1% of 2017 Toyota Sienna listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sienna 4.9 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sienna stands out as a practical family minivan with a strong reputation for space, comfort, and reliability. It offers three rows of seating and a versatile cabin, and the interior can be reconfigured to create a large cargo area with a low load floor. That flexibility is a major part of its appeal, especially for buyers who need one vehicle to handle passengers, luggage, and everyday errands.
For 2017, the Sienna’s powertrain was updated with direct fuel injection on the V6, raising output to 296 horsepower and pairing it with a new eight-speed transmission. Toyota also improved efficiency, with the all-wheel drive version rated at 11.7 L/100 km combined and the front-wheel drive version at 10.9 L/100 km combined. The model also came with a broad safety and convenience package, including Toyota Safety Sense, extra USB charging ports, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through its infotainment touchscreen.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The source notes that the new eight-speed transmission could be problematic, particularly for the 2017 and 2018 model years, and power sliding doors can also be a headache on used examples. Even so, the 2017 Toyota Sienna remains appealing for shoppers who value a roomy, versatile minivan with strong family-friendly features and a well-earned reputation for dependability.

I purchased this vehicle for the reliability factor, but have absolutely been blown away by the engineering factor. I have never owned a vehicle so we’ll planned out. I mean from the hood prop, in-cab adjustable HID headlights, to the bottle holders (yes, it’s got cup holders front and telescopic for the middle seats) but up front the Toyota engineers thought, “hey, where do they put their Topo Chico bottles while their coffee sits in the cup holders?” Oh I know… and bam, their they are, sliding out from the dash. The 295hp is in a heavy vehicle, so it’s not peppy like a Mustang or Camero, but cruising at 60mph and you need to quickly pass someone… done! Those 8-gears means there’s always one for the moment and when you press that accelerator, she takes off. I can honestly say that I’m fully impressed with the workmanship, engineering and features of this Toyota Sienna Limited.

How much does the 2017 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,847 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $22,847 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $28,136 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,121 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −18.76% |
Prices have softened 18.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 98 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.9/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its spacious interior, comfort, and reliability, and many also value the versatile seating and family-friendly convenience features. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a practical minivan for passengers, luggage, and everyday errands. With 29.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback highlights reliability, and the model’s reputation for dependability comes through clearly in owner comments about trouble-free family use and confidence over the long term. That said, used buyers should still inspect for age-related wear and known problem areas before committing, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for many years.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 98 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.76% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,847 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $22,847 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,121 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Sienna more attractive to buyers today but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you buy at a sensible price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your position when it comes time to resell. Demand should remain supported by the model’s family-friendly practicality and strong owner satisfaction.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.76% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is a smart choice if you want a well-liked, family-focused minivan and you can find one priced near the lower end of the market. If you are especially price-sensitive, it is worth comparing nearby years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2017’s strong owner satisfaction and current market softness.
