CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Sienna

Summary
With 95 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,045 CAD, 35.8% of 2017 Toyota Sienna listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sienna 4.9 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sienna stands out as a practical family minivan that leans on space, versatility, and a strong reputation for reliability. It offers three rows of seating and a cabin that can be reconfigured for a huge amount of cargo room, which is exactly the kind of flexibility many minivan buyers want. Owners also tend to value its comfortable ride and the sense that it is built for everyday family use rather than style alone.
What makes the 2017 model especially distinctive is its powertrain and equipment balance. Toyota added direct fuel injection to the V6 for the 2017 model year, bringing horsepower to 296, and paired it with a new eight-speed transmission. That update also improved fuel economy, with the all-wheel drive version rated at 11.7 L/100 km combined and the front-wheel drive version at 10.9 L/100 km combined. The Sienna also came with Toyota Safety Sense, extra USB charging ports, and standard active safety features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.
There are a few cautions to keep in mind. The new eight-speed transmission could be problematic, particularly for the 2017 and 2018 model years, and power sliding doors are another area to inspect carefully. Even so, the 2017 Toyota Sienna remains appealing because it combines strong utility, useful technology, and a well-earned reputation as a dependable family hauler.

I purchased this vehicle for the reliability factor, but have absolutely been blown away by the engineering factor. I have never owned a vehicle so we’ll planned out. I mean from the hood prop, in-cab adjustable HID headlights, to the bottle holders (yes, it’s got cup holders front and telescopic for the middle seats) but up front the Toyota engineers thought, “hey, where do they put their Topo Chico bottles while their coffee sits in the cup holders?” Oh I know… and bam, their they are, sliding out from the dash. The 295hp is in a heavy vehicle, so it’s not peppy like a Mustang or Camero, but cruising at 60mph and you need to quickly pass someone… done! Those 8-gears means there’s always one for the moment and when you press that accelerator, she takes off. I can honestly say that I’m fully impressed with the workmanship, engineering and features of this Toyota Sienna Limited.

How much does the 2017 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,034 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $23,034 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $28,553 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,518 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −19.23% |
Prices have softened 19.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 96 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 4.9/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its spacious interior, comfort, and reliability, and many also value the versatility of the seating layout and the convenience of its family-friendly features. That fits especially well if you want a practical minivan for everyday family use, with room for people and cargo. With 36.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with reliability coming through as one of the model’s biggest strengths. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and inspect known wear items carefully, because long-term ownership risk is lower when the vehicle has been well cared for.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to be choosy without waiting forever.
- Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 96 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 19.23% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,034 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $23,034 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,518 CAD.
That kind of price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the vehicle more attractive to used buyers today but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to preserve value later. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 19.23% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is a smart pick if you want the newer powertrain update, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has become more favourable on price. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains the better all-around choice when you want a well-equipped, family-friendly minivan with strong demand and solid value.
