Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota RAV4 stands out as a practical, well-equipped compact SUV that leans more toward usefulness than excitement. In the broader RAV4 story, Toyota’s formula has always been about durability and everyday versatility, and this generation continues that approach with a wide range of configurations, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, plus more rugged styling than earlier models. It is also notable for offering standard advanced driver aids and, on higher trims, near-luxury finishes, which helps explain why it remains such a strong value proposition for buyers who want a dependable family vehicle with plenty of equipment.
For 2017 specifically, the RAV4 benefits from the fourth generation’s mid-cycle updates, including the expanded safety equipment and the hybrid option that arrived in 2016. The hybrid is especially appealing because it pairs smoother performance with strong fuel economy, while the gas model remains straightforward and practical. Buyers should also appreciate the added interior space and the available touchscreen and convenience features introduced in this generation. At the same time, the RAV4 is still not the most engaging SUV to drive, and its cabin can feel noisy and plain, with basic materials that may not impress shoppers looking for a more upscale experience.

We got the LE trim. Not too many fancy features that I dont care about like a sunroof. The automatic transmission has 4 low manual gears available for driving over mountains, etc. Highway mileage up to 29 mpg. Practical and reliable.

This is the second Rav4Limited I have bought. I bought one in 2016 for my daughter. When it was my turn for a new vehicle I bought one for myself. I love all the safety features, the smooth ride. The only thing I do not like is how hard the seats are.
