Is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, ruggedness, solid construction, off-road ability, and long-lasting value. That makes it a strong fit if you want a body-on-frame SUV with standard four-wheel drive in Canada and you value toughness over car-like road manners. With 26.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback highlights reliability, ruggedness, solid construction, and long-lasting value, which are exactly the kinds of traits used buyers look for in a durable SUV. That kind of reputation matters if you plan to keep the vehicle for years and want something you can count on. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the 4Runner’s core durability and more about whether the specific example has been maintained well enough to preserve that dependable character.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 102 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.46% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,459 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $33,329 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,253 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. Because the 4Runner still has a reputation for ruggedness and long-lasting value, it should continue to attract interest from shoppers who want a durable SUV. Even so, the recent price decline shows that resale strength is not immune to broader market movement. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a rugged midsize SUV with standard four-wheel drive in Canada, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has eased a bit, the 2017 is the one to prioritise. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a similar 4Runner offers a lower entry price while still matching the capability and durability you want.
