Is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. Owners consistently praise its reliability, ruggedness, and long-lasting value, and the 4Runner’s body-on-frame, standard 4WD setup in Canada makes it especially appealing if you want a tough utility vehicle rather than a softer crossover. It is also a practical fit if you value off-road capability and durability over polished city manners. With 30.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback highlights reliability, ruggedness, and long-lasting value, which are exactly the traits used buyers tend to look for in a vehicle like this. That said, its appeal is strongest if you prioritise durability and all-terrain capability over refinement. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the vehicle’s core toughness and more about whether the previous owner used it in demanding conditions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 103 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.02% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,477 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $33,045 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,320 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can improve your buying position today but may also mean a future seller has less pricing power than a year ago. Even so, the 4Runner’s reputation for ruggedness and long-lasting value helps support demand. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and avoid overpaying now, you should be in a better position when it comes time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want the 4Runner’s rugged character, standard 4WD in Canada, and proven owner satisfaction in a year that is currently pricing more favourably than it did a year ago. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2017 stands out as a sensible target when you want durability and off-road capability first.
