What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car starts with a strong luxury presentation, but the more upscale versions add a softer Comfort setting, smaller 17-inch tyres, and available features such as the Luxury package’s upright grille and hood ornament. If you want the most compliant ride, the version with Airmatic air suspension is the one to seek out.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. In Canada, 4Matic all-wheel drive is standard, and the car also offers Dynamic Select to tailor throttle, transmission, and steering responses.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can help compensate for crosswinds, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, an attention monitor, and brake-drying functionality in wet weather. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch central screen with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The upgraded system adds an 8.4-inch screen and navigation, while voice recognition is improved and the interface includes integrated owner’s manual functions and shortcut-friendly menus.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the C300 4Matic at 10.1 L/100 km in the city, 7.8 L/100 km on the highway, and 9.1 L/100 km combined. In testing, the car averaged 10.2 L/100 km over more than 1,000 kilometres.

Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 1 trim level: C300 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

The C300 4Matic is the one to focus on because it’s the core Canadian model and the only trim explicitly identified here. It gives you the standard all-wheel-drive setup, the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, and the full luxury-and-safety foundation that defines this model year.

The safety package is strong even at the standard level, with forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, and stability control all included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping rather than impulse buying.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 326 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.52% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,716 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?

The current average of $22,716 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,890 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Because the model still carries strong owner satisfaction and a premium badge, well-kept examples should continue to draw interest. Cars with desirable equipment and clean histories are likely to hold buyer attention better than neglected or lightly equipped ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?

The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes includes rear side thorax-level airbags as standard, along with stability control that can help keep the car on course in crosswinds. Standard forward-collision alert with auto-braking and Pre-Safe add another layer of protection, while optional blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus expand the available safety net.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 model year keeps the C-Class formula intact with strong performance, luxury appeal, and a standout safety score.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, safety, and premium feel, the 2017 is a strong place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a well-equipped example near the low end of the range, since that’s where the best value is most likely to show up.
