Reviewed a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL on Apr 15, 2021
Purchased a 2017 Luxury trim and very pleased. The power from the V6 is more than sufficient, transmission took some getting used to but works well. Loads of features, great interior and a bonus remote start (not factory) that I discovered after. Highly recommended for a good all round SUV

Is the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating suggests strong owner satisfaction for this model year. That kind of feedback can be a useful sign if you want a used SUV that has generally pleased its owners. With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a reasonable chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
For used buyers, that points to lower perceived ownership risk, especially if you verify maintenance history and overall condition before you commit.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can be choosy without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 107 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.32% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,180 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL's resale value?
The current average of $13,180 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,541 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more attractive entry point, but it also means a future resale may need stronger condition, lower mileage, or better equipment to stand out. If the market stays steady, a well-kept example should still appeal to shoppers looking for value in this segment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of buyer satisfaction and current pricing, the 2017 is the one to focus on. If you're especially price-sensitive, keep comparing nearby model years and prioritise the listings that sit closest to the low end of the current range.
