This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Inventory: There are 103 listings available.

The current average of $13,130 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,354 CAD.

That softer pricing can make the model more attractive to you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If the market stays steady, the current lower entry point could help support demand from value-focused shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current value and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the primary year to focus on. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep comparing nearby years and listings to see whether a lower-priced alternative gives you a better overall deal.
