How much does the 2017 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 15.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 320 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Explorer earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, spacious interior, and impressive features, and many also like its power and handling, especially with the EcoBoost engine. It fits well if you want a roomy midsize SUV with family-friendly practicality and available all-wheel drive. With 28.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable and trouble-free in day-to-day use, with praise centred on its smooth ride and strong overall ownership experience. That said, the broader model-year context suggests you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and any signs of electrical issues before you buy. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a neglected example rather than a well-kept one.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 320 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,044 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $16,122 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,042 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Explorer easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you plan to resell later, the current trend means your return will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the Explorer remains a practical, widely recognised family SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a sensible choice if you want a well-liked, well-equipped Explorer and you can find one with a clean history at a competitive price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, it’s worth comparing nearby years to see whether a lower-priced alternative gives you similar space and features for less money.
