Yes — the 2017 Ford Explorer earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, spacious interior, and impressive features, and many also like its power and handling, especially with the EcoBoost engine. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize SUV that balances everyday usefulness with a more polished driving feel. Is the 2017 Ford Explorer reliable?

The owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling SUV that many drivers are happy to live with over time, especially because of its smooth ride and strong overall usability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about broad owner dissatisfaction and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been well maintained.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 21.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 331 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,135 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $16,158 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,093 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. If prices stay near today’s level, future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. The good news is that the model’s strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 21.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 Ford Explorer is a sensible choice if you want a well-liked midsize SUV with strong owner approval, a softer price than a year ago, and enough inventory to compare options. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, you may also want to look at nearby model years for the best combination of price and equipment, but the 2017 remains the better pick when you want a balanced mix of value and satisfaction.
