CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Summary
With 570 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,838 CAD, 28.8% of 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan 4.4 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan stands out as a practical, value-focused minivan that leans hard into space and flexibility. It was part of the fifth-generation Grand Caravan, a long-running version that had become a cheaper alternative to the Chrysler Pacifica by the end of its life. For buyers, that means the appeal is less about flash and more about the basics done well: a roomy cabin, easy entry and exit, and a layout that works especially well for families.
Its biggest calling card is Stow ’n Go seating, which lets the second and third rows fold below the floor to create a flat load area. That setup also leaves hidden underfloor storage when the seats are up, and it is one of the reasons the Grand Caravan has long been known for clever packaging. The 2017 model also benefits from the later-generation interior improvements described in the source, including a one-piece dash, softer materials, larger gauges, a heated steering wheel, and better fit and finish. Those touches help it feel more polished than its reputation might suggest, even if the styling is described as drab and the van is still associated with ageing-body flex and vibrations.
For shoppers, the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan’s strengths are straightforward: it is spacious, comfortable for adults in all rows, and easy to live with. The trade-offs are just as clear. The source flags unreliable four-speed automatic transmissions and chassis flex as age-related concerns, and the owner summary adds that some drivers would like more safety equipment. Even so, its combination of practicality and affordability makes it an appealing used minivan for buyers who care more about usefulness than image.

Only disappointment there was no blind spot warning system. Other wise I was impressed with all the features that come with the G-T model! Stow and go seats, power front seats, heated seats and steering wheel. Power opening doors, drives like a GT , powerful, and comfortable!

Is the best minivan for a family for the last 20 yrs.

I have owned Dodge Grand Caravans for over twenty years and, although they are not the most durable minivans in the market, they are highly reliable and can consistently provide ten to twelve years of service. The stow n go seating is obviously very helpful for a family and the price of the Caravan is more reasonable than most other minivans in the market. You can probably expect to have little to no maintenance issues with the Caravan for the first 130,000 miles, but then it will start to develop some significant needs for repair. However, if you are smart and save up over the ten to twelve years, you can purchase another one and start the process all over again. It is not as durable as a Toyota or Honda, but the value and initial cost is worth it.

How much does the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,863 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $12,848 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $14,681 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,681 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.38% |
Prices have softened 12.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 574 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan a good car?
Generally — the 4.4/5 user rating points to a well-liked used minivan, especially if you value space, family-friendly flexibility, and strong everyday usefulness. Owners repeatedly praise the roomy Stow ’n Go seating, the practical layout, and the good value compared with competitors. The overview also makes clear that this model is aimed at buyers who care more about basics done well than flash, with easy entry and exit and a cabin that works well for families. With 28.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding one priced attractively.
Is the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan reliable?
Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary also points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in day-to-day use, with value and practicality standing out as recurring strengths. At the same time, some owners mention durability concerns, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and how the van has aged over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that wear-and-tear issues may show up more clearly on higher-mileage examples, so a careful inspection matters.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re shopping carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 574 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.38% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $12,848 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan's resale value?
The current average of $12,863 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,681 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the van easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, that means condition, service records, and presentation will matter more than ever when it comes time to list. If you keep the vehicle well maintained, you may be better positioned to stand out in a value-driven segment where buyers are comparing many similar options.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.38% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a practical, value-focused minivan and the 2017’s current pricing fits your budget, it makes sense to focus on this year first. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby model years to see whether a lower-priced example offers similar utility, but the 2017 is a strong starting point for shoppers who want space, flexibility, and a reasonable market price.
