CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Chevrolet Colorado

Summary
With 93 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,741 CAD, 31.2% of 2017 Chevrolet Colorado listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado 4.73 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado stands out as a midsize pickup that balances utility, capability, and everyday comfort better than many buyers might expect. It was part of the second generation, which brought a larger, more refined truck than the original Colorado, and by 2017 it offered a strong mix of powertrain choices and body styles. For shoppers who wanted a truck that could work hard without feeling overly bulky, that combination was a major part of its appeal.
What makes the 2017 model especially distinctive is the breadth of its available equipment. It could be had with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and its higher trims brought more serious off-road hardware, including the Z71 and ZR2 variants. The diesel option was a particular highlight, with 181 horsepower, 369 lb-ft of torque, and a class-leading 3,500 kilograms of towing capacity, while also returning as little as 9.4 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. Even the V6 version was capable, and the truck’s automatic transmissions were paired to the different engines. Inside, the Colorado was more basic than some rivals in this era, but it still offered useful tech such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the larger screen, plus a straightforward infotainment system that was easy to use.
There are also a few reasons to approach the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado with realistic expectations. The source material points to transmission issues in the second generation, and early models in that generation could also have HVAC and engine concerns. At the same time, the Colorado’s strengths were clear: it offered good value, a useful blend of comfort and utility, and enough capability to make the mid-range and higher trims especially appealing. For buyers who wanted a versatile used pickup with real towing ability and a broad range of configurations, the 2017 Colorado remained a compelling choice.

The truck rides so smoothly. It also is an extremely safe vehicle. I was involved in an accident and if it wasn’t for the safety featuresof this truck I wouldn’t be here today.

How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,725 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $20,713 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $26,347 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,399 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −21.49% |
Prices have softened 21.49% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 91 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado earns a 4.73/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners commonly praise its reliability, performance, and value, and many also like its smooth ride and versatility as a work truck. In practical terms, that fits well if you want a midsize pickup that can handle daily driving while still offering useful capability and comfort. The market also shows 28.6% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile options to consider.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also highlights reliability, and many drivers describe the truck as dependable and a good value over time. That said, some shoppers note concerns about the diesel option's maintenance costs, so you should pay close attention to service history if you're considering one of those trucks. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific truck you choose has been maintained carefully.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Colorado?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 91 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 21.49% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,713 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado's resale value?
The current average of $20,725 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,399 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now, your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck has been maintained. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 21.49% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a midsize pickup with strong owner approval and a market that currently favours shoppers, the 2017 is a sensible place to start. If you're especially price-sensitive, you should also compare nearby years to see whether a similar truck offers a better asking price or a better-equipped listing for the money.
