Is the 2017 BMW X1 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 BMW X1 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its excellent driving experience, luxurious features, compact size, fuel efficiency, performance, and interior quality. The main trade-offs mentioned are ride comfort, engine noise, run-flat tyre behaviour, and some lower-cost interior materials. Is the 2017 BMW X1 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to dependable everyday use and confidence in the ownership experience. That said, some shoppers note concerns around ride comfort and tyre-related harshness, so a careful test drive matters.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a vehicle whose comfort or maintenance profile does not match your expectations.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW X1?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 160 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,010 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW X1's resale value?

The current average of $14,108 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,486 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the vehicle more approachable for you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should be set with the current softer pricing environment in mind. If demand stays steady, the model’s appeal can help support value, but the recent decline shows there is still some pressure on pricing.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW X1 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the primary year to focus on. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2017’s current market position and owner feedback.
