Is the 2017 BMW X1 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 BMW X1 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its excellent driving experience, luxurious features, compact size, fuel efficiency, performance, and interior quality. The market also shows 31.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 BMW X1 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable enough to live with day to day, especially when it comes to performance and overall ownership experience. Some comments do mention ride comfort concerns tied to engine noise and run-flat tires, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and how the vehicle has aged over time. For used buyers, that means the biggest long-term risk is less about outright satisfaction and more about whether prior care has kept the driving experience consistent.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW X1?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 160 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.48% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,008 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW X1's resale value?

The current average of $14,072 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,477 CAD.

That kind of price movement suggests the model has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market if values continue to normalise. If you buy at the current average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. A lower entry price can help offset depreciation risk, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW X1 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a sensible choice if you want a well-liked used X1 with a softer price environment and enough inventory to compare options. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also use the nearby model years as a benchmark, but the 2017 stands out as the better starting point when you want a balance of owner satisfaction and current market value.
