Is the 2017 BMW X1 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 BMW X1 earns a 4.58/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its excellent driving experience, luxurious features, compact size, fuel efficiency, performance, and interior quality. The main trade-offs mentioned are ride comfort, engine noise, run-flat tire behaviour, a low seating position, and some cheaper interior materials. Is the 2017 BMW X1 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.58/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to performance, efficiency, and overall quality. That said, the comments also suggest you should pay attention to comfort-related wear points and how the car has been maintained. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a poorly cared-for example that amplifies the model’s known comfort and noise complaints.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW X1?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 167 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.60% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,453 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW X1's resale value?

The current average of $14,453 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,435 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well kept. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside exposure later than someone who purchased when prices were higher. Strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment will matter more if you want to protect value over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.58/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW X1 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.58/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 BMW X1 makes sense if you want a well-liked compact luxury SUV and you can take advantage of the softer pricing in today’s market. If you’re price-sensitive, this year is especially worth considering because the current average sits below last year’s level and there are still a fair number of deal-priced listings to choose from. If you want the best value, focus on condition and price first, then compare against nearby model years only if you find a cleaner or better-equipped alternative.
