CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Audi Q5

Summary
With 154 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,900 CAD, 32.5% of 2017 Audi Q5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Audi Q5 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q5 stands out as a luxury compact SUV that leans more on refinement, practicality, and standard equipment than on ruggedness. It has standard quattro all-wheel drive, a smooth and comfortable ride, and a roomy, high-quality interior, which helps explain its appeal to buyers who want an upscale daily driver with a premium feel. It also comes well equipped, so even the entry-level version includes features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and cruise control.
What makes this model year especially distinctive is that it belongs to the first-generation Q5, which had already built a reputation for solidity and a polished cabin. For 2017, the Q5 was still offered with the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 that replaced the earlier V6, and the SQ5 remained part of the range with its 354-horsepower supercharged 3.0-litre V6. That gives the 2017 Q5 a broader performance spread than many rivals, while still keeping the focus on comfort and everyday usability.
There are trade-offs, though. The Q5 is not as much fun to drive as some midsize SUVs, and some models are rather expensive. Reliability is also a consideration, with first-generation Q5s associated with issues such as excessive oil consumption, timing chain problems, panoramic sunroof rattles or leaks, and noisy suspension from failing control arms. Even so, for shoppers who value a premium interior, standard all-wheel drive, and a balanced mix of comfort and practicality, the 2017 Audi Q5 remains an appealing choice.

Drives great, tows way more than it should, beyond comfortable and has a refined interior. Pricey but checked all the boxes of what I was looking for at a lower cost point then the trucks and larger suvs I was originally looking at. Audi makes great vehicles if you can accept the high cost of ownership. Only reason I’m not going five stars is price of purchase and cost of ownership. Otherwise I love the vehicle.

I think the interface on the car needs to be updated to fit modern and future technology. The horse power needs to be beefed up to stay competative in the segment its in. Overall its a good, safe and economical car. The Quattro system is great, and the cabin comfort is excellent.

How much does the 2017 Audi Q5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,675 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,675 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $18,323 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,277 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −15.06% |
Prices have softened 15.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 316 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Audi Q5 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its refined comfort, spacious interior, and enjoyable driving experience, while also appreciating its towing capacity and balanced handling. That lines up well with its role as an upscale daily driver that blends luxury and practicality. With 28.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive example.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback highlights a vehicle that feels refined, comfortable, and dependable enough to keep owners happy over time. The recurring praise for its smooth ownership experience and practical luxury suggests it can be a satisfying long-term choice if you find a well-kept example.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that maintenance history matters a lot, so a careful inspection and service records are especially important.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi Q5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 316 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.06% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,675 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $14,675 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,277 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can put some pressure on future resale expectations if you sell soon. If you buy at today’s average, you may have less room for appreciation than in a stronger pricing environment. On the other hand, a lower entry price can help you absorb depreciation more comfortably over your ownership period.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $19,464 CAD, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,675 CAD average.
- It brings a full redesign with more room, newer technology, and improved refinement.
The bottom line: Choose the 2017 if you want the lower-priced route into a well-liked luxury SUV with strong owner approval and decent deal availability. Consider the 2018 if you’re willing to pay more for the redesigned model’s broader upgrades and more modern feel.
