CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Audi Q5

Summary
With 138 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,900 CAD, 32.6% of 2017 Audi Q5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Audi Q5 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q5 stands out as a luxury compact SUV that puts refinement and everyday usefulness ahead of flash. It has standard quattro all-wheel drive, and Audi’s appeal here is centred on a luxurious interior, an upmarket image, and practicality rather than off-road ability. For this generation, the Q5 is described as a very refined package with few major weak spots, and it keeps the familiar blend of quality and comfort while adding more high-tech equipment.
It is also well equipped in a way that suits its premium positioning. Standard features for Audi Q5 Komfort models included Bluetooth, three-zone climate control, a rear-view camera, leather upholstery, power and heated front seats, a power tailgate, and 40/20/40-split rear seatbacks. Optional equipment early on included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a panoramic sunroof, full LED headlights, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The second-generation Q5 also brought improved fuel economy with an initial Natural Resources Canada combined figure of 9.6 litres per 100 kilometres, while the high-performance SQ5 was available from the start with 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
For buyers, the 2017 Audi Q5’s strengths are its premium feel, roomy interior, and strong standard equipment. The main trade-offs are that some models are rather expensive and it is not as much fun to drive as some midsize SUVs. Even so, it remains appealing because it delivers a polished, comfortable, and practical ownership experience in a package that feels distinctly upscale.

Drives great, tows way more than it should, beyond comfortable and has a refined interior. Pricey but checked all the boxes of what I was looking for at a lower cost point then the trucks and larger suvs I was originally looking at. Audi makes great vehicles if you can accept the high cost of ownership. Only reason I’m not going five stars is price of purchase and cost of ownership. Otherwise I love the vehicle.

I think the interface on the car needs to be updated to fit modern and future technology. The horse power needs to be beefed up to stay competative in the segment its in. Overall its a good, safe and economical car. The Quattro system is great, and the cabin comfort is excellent.

How much does the 2017 Audi Q5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,731 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,704 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $18,312 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,262 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.66% |
Prices have softened 14.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 315 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Audi Q5 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its refined comfort, spacious interior, and fun driving experience, while also appreciating its blend of luxury and practicality. That makes it a strong fit if you want a premium compact SUV that feels polished and useful for everyday driving. With 24.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with the Q5’s refinement and comfort helping it feel like a vehicle you can count on over time. The long-term ownership risk for used buyers is mainly tied to premium-car upkeep, so a careful inspection and service-history review matter.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi Q5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best-priced examples.
- Deal availability: 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 315 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.66% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,704 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $14,731 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,262 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can make the Q5 more attractive to buyers now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should still hold appeal because the model’s premium image and practical layout remain desirable.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $19,411 CAD, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,731 CAD average.
- It brings a full redesign with more room and newer technology.
The bottom line: Choose the 2017 if you want the better value and are comfortable with a more affordable luxury SUV that still scores well with owners. Consider the 2018 if you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more for added room and technology; price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2017 and focus on well-maintained examples.
