CarGurus Analysis: 2016 RAM 3500
Summary
With 73 currently listed for sale and an average price of $38,054 CAD, 16.4% of 2016 RAM 3500 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 RAM 3500 4.8 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 RAM 3500 stands out as a heavy-duty truck that had already moved well beyond its original workhorse roots. By this generation, it offered luxurious interiors and upscale trims, along with technology such as Uconnect infotainment, premium sound systems, and smart cabin materials. It was also available in regular, quad, mega, and chassis-cab configurations, with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, which gives buyers a wide range of body styles and uses to consider.
What makes the 2016 RAM 3500 especially distinctive is how much capability it paired with that added comfort. The generation included the 5.7-litre Hemi V8, the 6.4-litre Hemi V8, and the 6.7-litre Cummins turbo diesel, and it retained a manual transmission option throughout the generation. Maximum towing capacity in this generation ranged from 8,160 kilograms to nearly 13,600 kilograms, depending on the cab configuration, so it remained a serious towing tool even as it became more refined. The RamBox was added in 2012, and a 2013 refresh brought new interior and exterior styling along with available features such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and power-folding side mirrors.
For buyers, the appeal of the 2016 RAM 3500 is the blend of strength, comfort, and available equipment. It is described as spacious and comfortable, with impressive towing and payload capability, but it is also a very large truck, and its proportions can be difficult to manage in towns and cities. The diesel engine is also noted as noisy, and safety technology is limited compared with newer heavy-duty trucks.

These trucks are workhorses that get decent fuel economy. The single rear wheel trucks get great fuel economy, The duallies are strong. The front tires wear quickly, but thats expected with heavy loads. They are very dependable and comfortable.

How much does the 2016 RAM 3500 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $38,140 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $38,072 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $42,870 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,968 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.24% |
Prices have softened 11.24% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 73 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2016 RAM 3500 a good car?
Yes — the 2016 RAM 3500 earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its reliability and power, and many say it is especially well suited to heavy-duty tasks like towing. You also get comfort and decent fuel economy for a truck of this size, particularly in single rear wheel configurations, while the available cabin and body styles make it easier to match the truck to your needs. With 15.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 RAM 3500 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback describes it as reliable, powerful, and dependable for heavy-duty work, especially when you need a truck you can count on for towing. That said, some owners mention front tire wear and missing features in lower trims, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and condition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 RAM 3500?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 15.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 73 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.24% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $38,072 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 RAM 3500's resale value?
The current average of $38,140 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,968 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the truck easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you plan to resell later, the current trend means your return will depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 RAM 3500 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 15.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.24% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2016 RAM 3500 is a strong choice if you want heavy-duty capability with a more refined cabin and you value a market that has eased from last year. If you are price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained truck rather than the newest one, since the 2016 already offers a compelling mix of value and owner satisfaction.
