Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Hyundai Elantra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on standout listings.

• Deal availability: 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 307 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.60% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $8,639 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $8,665 CAD sits slightly below last year's $9,693 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the model is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you plan to resell later, you should expect value to depend heavily on mileage, condition, and maintenance records.

Because the market is already pricing this model year below its recent average, future appreciation is unlikely; instead, your best protection is buying well and keeping the car in strong shape.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,252 CAD, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,665 CAD average.
• It brings a fresh redesign with stronger technology and a more polished feel.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the lower purchase price and a solid value proposition. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer-feeling cabin with more modern tech, the 2017 is the better upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2016 remains the smarter buy.
