Is the 2016 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda Civic earns a 4.86/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, reliability, and impressive fuel economy, and they also like its stylish design and high safety ratings. What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan range starts with the DX, which misses out on the Honda Sensing safety package, while higher trims add more refinement, equipment, and a more upscale feel. The Touring trim brings the most premium presentation, including chrome accents, polished two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting, and a digital instrument panel.
• Powertrain: The bottom three sedan trims use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, while the EX-T and Touring get a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft. A 6-speed manual is standard on the DX and LX, while other trims use a CVT.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is available on every sedan trim except the base DX.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen system is quick, and the Civic offers Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth streaming, HD Radio, SiriusXM, and Garmin navigation. The Touring version also adds a customisable digital instrument panel.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the 1.5-litre turbo and CVT-equipped models at 6.7 L/100 km combined. The 2.0-litre gets 6.9 L/100 km combined with the CVT and 7.5 L/100 km combined with the manual.

Which 2016 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: DX, LX, EX, EX-T, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the entry point, but it is the least equipped sedan trim and the only one that cannot be paired with Honda Sensing. It makes sense only if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Civic.
• LX: This is the best-value starting point for most shoppers because it keeps the Civic’s core strengths while adding more flexibility, including an optional CVT. If you want the smartest balance of price and everyday usability, this is the trim to focus on.
• EX: This trim adds more equipment and sits in the middle of the range, making it a sensible step up if you want a better-equipped Civic without jumping to turbo power.
• EX-T: This is the first trim with the 1.5-litre turbo engine, so it is the right choice if you want stronger performance without going all the way to the top trim.
• Touring: This is the most upscale version, with the richest feature set, the turbo engine, and the most premium cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the most refined Civic experience.

Honda Sensing is available on every sedan trim except the base DX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 430 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,194 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $14,198 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,540 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy now but less favourable for a seller trying to maximise return. If you own one, the current pricing trend means you may need to be realistic about expectations unless your car is especially clean, well equipped, or low mileage. Strong demand should still help, though, because the Civic’s reputation for reliability and efficiency keeps it broadly appealing.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Civic safe?

The 2016 Honda Civic sedan earns five-star ratings from NHTSA for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover risk, and the Civic sedan and coupe both earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is available on every sedan trim except the base DX, so safety-minded shoppers may want to avoid the entry model. The rearview camera also offers three views, including a top view and an extra-wide shot.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The all-new redesign brought a major jump in refinement, build quality, and style.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,333 CAD, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,198 CAD average.
• It is a practical, well-rounded compact car that does the basics especially well.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the more polished, more desirable Civic with stronger style and a more modern feel. If your priority is saving money and you are happy with a simpler, more practical compact car, the 2015 is the value play.
