Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — 4.25/5 is a strong user rating for a used full-size pickup. Owners consistently point to its comfort, features, and smooth ride, and many also like the luxurious Denali trim and thoughtful design touches. That fits well if you want a capable truck with a more upscale feel, strong equipment, and everyday usability rather than a bare-bones workhorse. With 25.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.25/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback does include reliability concerns, especially around the transmission, and some drivers also mention air conditioning issues. Even so, the overall owner sentiment suggests many people have been able to count on it for regular use and long-term ownership. For used buyers, that means the main risk is not universal failure, but rather the possibility of higher repair exposure if you do not inspect the truck carefully.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully before committing.

• Deal availability: 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 297 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,491 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $21,564 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,316 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the truck easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you plan to resell later, the current trend points to a more competitive market where condition, mileage, and trim will matter more. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a used full-size pickup with a more premium cabin feel, strong equipment, and a market that currently favours careful shoppers, the 2016 is a sensible target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-priced examples rather than the newest badge alone.
