CarGurus Analysis: 2016 BMW 3 Series
Summary
With 28 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,097 CAD, 28.6% of 2016 BMW 3 Series listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 BMW 3 Series 4.2 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 BMW 3 Series stands out as a well-rounded luxury sport sedan that still leans hard into the brand’s traditional strengths: sharp handling, strong performance, and a businesslike cabin. For this generation, BMW offered a wide range of powertrains, from four-cylinder models to six-cylinder versions, along with available all-wheel drive in Canada and the choice of manual or automatic transmissions. That breadth of choice is part of the car’s appeal, because it lets buyers prioritise efficiency, everyday usability, or more serious pace without leaving the 3 Series family.
For 2016 specifically, the 3 Series line-up included the 330i, 330e plug-in hybrid, 340i, and M3. The 330e brought plug-in hybrid capability with up to 23 kilometres of electric range, while the 340i used BMW’s B58 3.0-litre inline six with 322 horsepower. The M3 sat at the top of the range with 425 horsepower in standard form and 444 in Competition guise, plus the option of a six-speed manual on the regular M3. BMW also gave the car a broad safety and technology roster, including available driver-assistance features and modern infotainment, though the system’s small screen and older interface were already starting to feel dated.
The 2016 BMW 3 Series is appealing because it combines premium image and driving enjoyment with a genuinely wide spread of versions. It is not the roomiest choice, and ownership can be expensive, but it delivers the kind of polished, engaging experience that has long defined the nameplate. Owners also tend to value its build quality, comfort, and safety, although some have noted that the electronic steering does not provide the same road feel as older BMWs.

This was a car in good condition that may need attention to tires. The body and interior are in excellent condition. Mileage and price make this a good deal.
