What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base CE is the most basic version, while the S adds a sportier front fascia, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport buckets. The LE Eco is tuned more for efficiency, but the content suggests its extra fuel-economy focus may not be worth the trade-off for many buyers.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.8-litre inline four-cylinder with 132 hp in most trims, while the LE Eco uses efficiency-focused tuning and makes 140 hp. Transmission choice matters too, with a six-speed manual in the CE and S, a four-speed automatic in the CE, and a CVT in the other trims.
• Safety package: Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard and includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. Standard airbags, crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a tire pressure monitoring system are also part of the package.
• Infotainment: All trims include LED headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB auxiliary port. Higher trims add hands-free voice controls, and the Corolla is available with Entune infotainment.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual model is rated at 7.1 L/100 km city and 5.2 highway. The CE automatic uses 7.4 city and 5.4 highway, while the S and LE with the CVT use 6.8 city and 4.9 highway. The LE Eco is rated at 6.5 city and 4.6 highway.

Which 2014 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: CE, S, LE, LE Eco.

Here's the short version:

• CE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Corolla basics with the manual or automatic transmission. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and do not need the extra equipment found in the higher trims.
• S: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the sportier styling, paddle shifters with the CVT, and a more engaging feel without moving into the efficiency-focused LE Eco territory.
• LE: This trim is the more comfort-oriented step up, and it pairs well with the CVT and the standard feature set shared across the lineup. It suits you if you want a straightforward daily driver with a little more polish than the CE.
• LE Eco: This trim is for buyers who want the most efficiency-focused Corolla, but the content suggests the fuel-economy gains may not justify the extra cost for most shoppers.

Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim for the core safety suite.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

• It adds a broader appeal with a bit more style and some driving pleasure.

The 2014 is the better pick if you want the lower price and the strongest value story. If you are willing to spend more for a slightly more polished feel, the 2015 is the better alternative.
