Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Corolla stands out as a compact car that focuses on the basics rather than flash. Its 132 horsepower may not seem like much, but the engine tuning and CVT mapping work well to make the most of its fuel-sipping four-cylinder. That emphasis on efficiency and everyday usability is a big part of its appeal, especially for buyers who want affordable daily motoring in a package that is meant to be dependable over the long haul.
This model year also marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, which reinforces its place as a long-running nameplate built around practical transportation. The Corolla is described as not the prettiest in the bunch, but it delivers fuel-efficient daily motoring and is presented as a tremendously reliable addition to a garage. Owner feedback lines up with that character, with drivers praising its fuel efficiency, reliability, and low maintenance costs, while also noting that it can feel small for families and lacks power.

Nice vehicle. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the touch screen stereo is broken. That’s about the only thing I didnt test during the test drive.

This car is an excellent value! The only downside to the car is that it had over 90000 miles on it; however, Toyotas have the reputation if cared/maintained for properly they keep going to way over 200000 miles!

Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.3/5 user-rated compact car with an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent fuel efficiency, reliability, and low maintenance costs. It also comes through as a strong value for commuting and long drives, which fits the Corolla’s practical, everyday-use focus. That said, some owners note that it can feel small for families and lacks power.
For you, that means the Corolla makes the most sense if you want straightforward, affordable daily transportation rather than something exciting or spacious. 23.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla reliable?
Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as reliable, low-maintenance, and a car they can count on for commuting and long drives. The expert assessment also frames it as dependable, with a reputation for affordable daily motoring and long-haul durability. On the cost side, the Corolla’s ownership appeal is reinforced by the note that the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about whether the car’s modest power and compact feel suit your needs over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base CE is the most basic version, while the S adds a sportier front fascia, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport front seats. If you want the best value, the S stands out for adding more personality without moving into the efficiency-focused Eco variants.
- Powertrain: You get a 1.8-litre inline four-cylinder with 132 hp in most trims, while the LE Eco uses efficiency-focused tuning that raises output to 140 hp. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual, a four-speed automatic on the CE, and a CVT on most other trims.
- Safety package: Toyota’s Star Safety System includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. All trims get this suite, along with standard airbags and other passive safety hardware.
- Infotainment: All trims include Bluetooth connectivity and a USB auxiliary port, and the Corolla is available with Entune. Uprated models add hands-free voice controls.
- Fuel efficiency: The manual model is rated at 7.1 L/100 km city and 5.2 highway. The CE automatic uses 7.4 city and 5.4 highway, while the S and LE with the CVT use 6.8 city and 4.9 highway. The LE Eco is rated at 6.5 city and 4.6 highway, and the LE Eco with the Upgrade package is rated at 6.6 city and 4.9 highway.
Which 2014 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: CE, S, LE, LE Eco.
Here's the short version:
- CE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Corolla basics at the lowest price. It comes with the manual or a four-speed automatic, plus standard Bluetooth, a USB auxiliary port, LED headlights, and Toyota’s Star Safety System. It makes sense if you want the cheapest path into the model.
- S: This is the best-value choice if you want a little more character. It adds the sportier exterior treatment, sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and CVT availability with Sport mode and manual shift capability.
- LE: This trim is the more comfort-oriented middle ground, with the CVT as standard and the same core tech and safety equipment as the rest of the range. It suits you if you want a straightforward daily driver without the sportier look of the S.
- LE Eco: This trim is aimed at efficiency, with unique engine tuning, low-rolling-resistance tyres, and altered throttle mapping. It is the least compelling choice if you care more about real-world value than squeezing out the last bit of fuel economy.
Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard across the range, so you do not need to move up a trim for the core safety suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 23.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 151 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $11,904 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Corolla's resale value?
The current average of $12,063 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,827 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Corolla is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that can mean less immediate upside if you buy at today’s average and try to resell quickly. On the other hand, the Corolla’s reputation for reliability and low ownership costs should help keep demand steady over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla safe?
The 2014 Toyota Corolla earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard on all trims and includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. Standard passive safety equipment includes eight airbags, front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 23.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from the expert summary: it marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation and emphasises dependable, fuel-efficient daily motoring.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,932 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,063 CAD average.
- It adds a stronger style focus while staying sensible and dependable.
The bottom line: If you want the better-value buy, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and the Corolla’s core strengths are already well established. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly fresher take on the same practical formula, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
