(48 reviews)The 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS SC is a quick, stylish little sports car. Maybe not suited for an older demographic, but sure tailored for the interests of the younger drivers, speaking as one of them! The 2.0L DOHC ECOTEC four-cylinder engine comes with an Eaton Supercharger providing an extra boost with a great transition when it kicks in unlike the lag of a turbocharger. The Cobalt is quick, and the clutch and short-throw shifter have a very smooth, close-coupled action with well-spaced gears. With a very wide torque band, excessive shifting is certainly not necessary, and there is little need to get up into fifth except on the highways. Handling is superb on the Cobalt with stiffer springs, tuned shocks and a larger anti-roll bar, allowing it to focus on the sharp turns without either the front or rear wheels going wide! The performance on this car is great but still could be improved with Chevy definitely leaving room open for modifications. The exterior is simple, yet very sleek and with the addition of the huge rear spoiler wing, surely does not make this car look boring! Riding on 18" Pirelli PZero Rosso performance tires and high polished alloy wheels gives the Cobalt a good grip on the road with the added style. On the inside, the Cobalt is fitted together fairly well! There's plenty of leg room up front, however the rear seating is cramped. But I don't sit in the back so who cares! Even so, all seats are very comfortable! The nicely designed Recaro bucket seats hold the driver and passenger in place on sharp turns and are comfortable enough for long treks. As for the controls, luckily Chevrolet improved the Cobalt by giving the 2007 version a redesigned center console, which provided a better setup and look. The steering wheel was also redone to give a more comfortable feel when driving. The SS comes with a 7-speaker premium Pioneer sound system with amplified tweeters and rear subwoofer, that delivers awesome quality and sound when listening to music! A lot of trunk space for a small car, but small opening. Rounding off the interior, Chevrolet gave the SS a nice little touch by including a boost gauge! With reasonable fuel economy and being well priced the Cobalt SS SC certainly provides a lot of enjoyment behind the wheel!
Performance- Very quick, supercharged, can buy stage kits upping horsepower to 245. Build Quality- Very good for an domestic. No repairs Appearance- Amazing color(sunbust orange) Very masculine looking car, the ladies heads are always turning. Fun Factor- It's supercharged, short throw 5-speed. Very fun to drive, handles great and rides good for a performance car. I would recommend this car, but they stoped making the supercharged model, but will have a turbocharged model with a similar price tag of 23,000-24,000. and the turbo model will have 260 HP.
Performance is quite good. A few simple mods go a long way. Very little body roll with stock suspension. Build quality is nothing spectacular, but I have no complaints. Interior is a bit plain, but this car is meant for handling and auto-x more than it is for comfort. Good gas mileage car, 26 city, and 35 hwy. This car is very fun to drive and very predictable when you decide to have a little fun.
I have been waiting for over 5 years to purchase a car and this is the first one. The 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged is my first car that I can add to my resume of cars. All I can say is, it is about time that Chevy got rid of the Cavalier and built something with balls. For all of those that think this is just a Cavalier but looks a little sportier, you couldn't be more wrong. I have driven a Cavalier and obviously I have driven this and there is no comparison. As far as looks, they aren't even close to looking the same, the Cobalt has FAR MORE performance and handling and it's a lot more fun to drive. It's one of those cars (compared to a Civic or Cavalier) when you hear the motor roaring, your actually moving, unlike a civic or a cavalier that just puts along with 8,000RPM and your only doing 30km/h. For my first car, it has been a great experience. Unfortunately there are no mods done to it yet, but I assure you they are coming!!!!
205hp from a 2.0L supercharged engine in a car that weights under 2900lbs is just sweet! And from the dyno's I've seen, all 205hp are at the wheels. not to mention I average 29mpg, country back-roads driving mostly. The handling is great, I'll chicken out before I ever get to it's limits. Breaking good too, but they heat up quick, then again I have pretty cheap pads on it. The 5spd transmission is a complete joy to shift, in fact everything about driving this car is nothing but rewarding. I love it!
