Tough as nails, someone hit a brick wall with me in at low speeds, so we strapped the bumper to a tree, put it in 4wd and hit reverse and pulled it out. The 6cyl. was very torquey. Pulled a landscaping trailer very well. Did very nice burn outs thanks to the eaton rear end. Very good suv, took its beating and always asked for more.

I love the power and the amount of torque that the 4.0 litre straight six puts out. The AX-15 5 speed manual transmission is a great mate, along with the NP-231 transfer case. The Dana 35 rear and Dana 30 front seem to be holding up fine to my style of harsh driving. With 30x9.5 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, this rig is capable of doing everything i need it to do, and more.

Jeep has always made some solid off-road vehicles. Probably some of the best. The Cherokee, while it may not be the most popular, is still one of the better vehicles that Jeep made. The 4.0 HO straight six puts out excellent torque and power and can pull the Cherokee through just about anything. Build quality can be questionable when considering how vulnerable the floors are to rust. Cherokees are notorious for rotted floors and the unibody construction does not help to make this an easy fix. If you pick up a Cherokee with solid floors, however, expect to find that it's one of the most reliable vehicles made. The 4.0 engine will turn 300,000 miles if it's taken care of properly and will outlast the rest of the vehicle. Gas mileage ranges. With 30 inch MTRs and a 5 speed transmission, I manage to get about 23/24 mpg.

I love that this truck is so simple and rugged. It's very hard to break and very reliable overall. Mine has 233K on it and it runs great still. The only quality issues are for the smaller items. I've replaced the original radiator because the original was leaking and half plastic. Ive also replaced: door switches, starter, brake master cylinder, wheel bearing, catalytic converter, rear main seal, rear hatch struts and latch, battery and water pump all in the last 2 years. I purchased this vehicle from the original owner 2 years ago with 212K miles. All things considered these repairs were due and most cars never make it to 233K miles at all. I expect to get many more miles in the years to come.
