(7 reviews)This was my mom's car but it I put more miles on it than her so it may have well of been mine. My grandparents got new Caddies every few years so I grew up with a respect for the quality and comfort of these cars. However, Caddilac entered a new era with the introduction of the Northstar OHC V8. That motor was a masterpiece of automotive engineering and it is a shame to hear that it is being fazed out for a V6 dominated line. This car has power to spare, an unbelievably smooth ride, and responsiveness that you would not expect from a car this large with such a smooth ride. The car also has surprising good fuel economy for its class and performance level. It actually had comparable real world MPG to my Hyundai Sonota (but it requires Premium so that must be factored into driving costs). The car rarely requires any repairs or unusual maintenance. It was built for to be reliable for years with minimal maintenance. I really enjoyed this car, especially for road trips or hauling people around.
An "American Class Act" ! (especially coming from that era) It Has Beauty, Style, Presence, Performance, Substance, Understated (not ostentatious) Luxury, & Elegance. On the road, she is stately, yet responsive..... substantial, but not overtly so. Seems to me to be the perfect sporting luxury compromise - for the price of admission! It worked then, and apparently, still works for me today....
Got it cheap for a winter car, rides smooth, handles like a boat, guzzles gas
Actually, the Northstar is an excellent engine. It closely resembles a smaller and detuned version of the LT5 that was in the Corvette ZR-1. All aluminum, 32 valve DOHC, 100,000 miles before first tuneup. 300bhp NA horsepower. There are guys taking these motors and putting 20+ psi of boost through them on stock internals. With regular fluid changes (Synthetic oil, & proper aluminum coolant), this motor should be virtually bulletproof.
what is there not to like? its a cadillac without a northstar the car is a beast. its 15 years old with 80,000 miles on it and i still get pulled over for doin 115mph in a 70 zone. i've takin it down the track and won against imports. and i've driven from south florida to tennessee with no problems what so ever its comfortable
