4.8 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Its a definite pose mobile. Makes all the right noises and goes sideways very nicely. For a 22 year old car its very relible (it made it all the way round spain through france and back to blighty with no trouble other than overheating but you would start to complain too in 40 degrees) and for its day one of the faster "affordable" sports cars.
I bought this capri only this year, so far no problems. its got the wheels and seats out of a capri 2.8i which im in 2 minds if thats a good thing or not. wet weather driving is very different (it has leaf springs rear wheel drive and no weight at the back) but thats part of the fun isnt it?
Spent £1000's of pounds geting this car the way i wanted it. Absolutley loved this car but had to sell it because i was skint :-(
40 words minimum, eh ? I reckon I can break that barrier.. 2.8 Performance isn't shabby, hangs on to the back of the modern stuff (MG ZS180 for instance) shows most others a clean pair of heels. Great fun with some idiot in a Saxo who thinks his car's a rocket ship – just sit there all quiet and wait.. He'll be in your rear view before you've finished letting the clutch out. (laying a number 11 is optional, but does extend the Saxo's presence until second gear arrives -allegedly) Build quality - not as bad as you'd imagine for a 24 year old car. Appearance - cruising down a country lane in the sunshine, you're not looking at the road much - you're watching the hedgerows folding over the bonnet bulge.. Nods of appreciation from most ages, and both sexes. Costs.. Reasonable for a classic, but a bit of a shock when you open the taps up and watch the fuel tank empty out before you've got into 5th.. 18mpg urban, but a nice 35mpg on the motorway (70mph is around 2500rpm in 5th) . Show it a nice 'b' road and you're in mid to low teens. You'll also spend your entire income on polish and wax if you buy a black one. Fun ? Hell yeah. Lots of it. The noise, the smell, the seating position - it doesn't get better than this. I've been in some serious motors over the 27 years I've been on this planet. None of them left me feeling the way I feel just looking at my Capri. Stupidly tall ? I am and I fit in perfectly with bags of headroom. Not even Jeremy Clarkson would need the seat all the way to the back of the runners. My sister's a right short little thing (claims 5ft, but gets lost in the grass if not mown for a week) and she has no trouble, either. Why did Ford stop accommodating different sized drivers like this ? It's brilliant! Just a shame you can't use the "You wouldn't fit/reach the pedals" excuse to keep folk out of the drivers side. Living with it is one of those things - be prepared to grin like a fat kid (sorry, "metabolically disadvantaged young person") in a sweetshop when it runs, but sling your tools down the driveway swearing on the rare occasion when it won't. Sitting at a dull 70 on a motorway for 300+ miles is a doddle. No cramp, no trapped manhood, just like sitting in your favourite armchair. My father has a knackered back – he finds it a pleasure to drive, and says it never bothers his back unless I'm driving and stir it up a bit. Don't think this means you won't feel the road, though – you will, it's there in the wheel, the pedals and the seat, just not harsh. Only two real niggles: 1) Wipers are useless on the windscreen - ideally you want them on the side windows. As soon as there's enough rain to justify wipers you only use the windscreen as somewhere to hold your tax disc. 2) Night driving – Capri headlamps aren't brilliant (they can be exchanged easily for better lamps) and because you're so low down, modern cars appear as if they're on full beam.. Said I could break the 40 word barrier.. Right, time to go and polish her again.
Great classic car, wish I could have kept it, I regret selling
