The Volkswagen Beetle went downhill from 1972. By 1973, smog control had already started to choke the H4 engine to death and by 1975, VW had introduced fuel injection, which was a disaster. The 1972 Beetle is the best. The old style Volkswagen had become too expensive to make. The Karmann Ghia died in 1974. The bug lasted a few years longer due to modular body construction, but VW was cutting costs everywhere.

It is a fun little car that gets lots of attention wherever it goes.
