(8 reviews)Bought this classic town coupe in 1990 from a dealer in Ontario brought it up from Florida with 46,000 miles on it and it drove like a dream. This was the last year Ford stuffed the 460 engine under the hood, it would pass anything except a gas station.
It was my ship. The thing drove like a barge, but it was big and beautiful. Only reason I don't have it was it was a poor investment when gasoline cost 4.00/gal. Lol, not a wise choice. But if you can afford the fuel, then you drive in style.
Lots of power, just not for speed. You could prolly out-tow most pickup trucks pretty easy. It only gets 7mpg, so that is the only real bad thing I can say about it. It does also have the Town Car package too. Its nice to drive, its almost like sitting in your livingroom sofa. Lots of technology in it for a late '70s car. It only has 26,000 miles, so everything is going pretty good with it.
I bought this car for $300, it looked like a piece of green junk but ran very well. I spent $200 repairing things like marker lights, signal lights, tail lights, they were all busted. Then I painted it Tremclad gray, with a roller, and got married in it, (after the paint dried). The car looked great. Used the car as a limo for the wedding. Then the brakes failed on the way home from getting married... in the snow... 3 ton car... no brakes. Luckily it was a short drive, with no one else on the roads. Managed to get home safe,... The car was a tank, and slowed down when your not on the gas. Next day fixed the 4 wheel disc brakes, in the snow, for another $300. Then it was ok. Never did anything else, but change the oil. Suspension and the handling were good. Air shocks and no problems with sagging springs in this car. Well worth the money for the period of time I had it. Then a few years later, traded it for a more economical '73 Mustang 351C HP. So my impression of this car, had it not freaked me out when I got married.... It's strong as an ox. 460 4bbl powerful motor, sucked up the gas, low costs in maintenance, and the ride was comfort for all. Not really fun to drive, felt more like work, having to haul everyone and everything around all the time.
Performance - It is luxury car and it handles like a luxury car, but it DOES have a 460 4bbl in it. Build Quality - This car was build like a tank, it is 33 years old and it is in better shape than most 2005 cars. It was the top of the line luxury in 1977. Appearance - It looks like a mobster's car, long, lean, and classy. Cost Of Ownership - it currently needs approximately 600 dollars worth of work to put it on the road, but my son is crazy about it and want to drive it when he gets his license, which is cool.It will probably get around 15 miles per gallon on the highway. Fun Factor - It is a blast from the past and it will turn heads, it will be smooth as riding on air, but good luck finding a parking spot.
