troble starting my 2002 saturn vue

i turn the key, starts up and rev high, then shuts off. but when i turns the key and giving it gas. it
will stay running. reving up and down. (rpm's 1000 to 3000 over and over again.) let of on the gas
it shuts off. i replaced the plugs, cleaned throttle body, and injecter cleaner. still the same. turn the
key, give gas, rev up and down, let off gas, and shut off.

I'll open with a vacuum leak. Before the age of throttle positions sensors and idle air solenoids, vacuum leaks would cause a stall condition at idle. Look at the hoses first. If everything looks good, get the codes read if you can make it to a shop or parts store.

I agree with tenspeed. Had same issue with wife's car not long ago. Codes stated maf issue but it turned out to be the idle air control valve. Some times the iac will not thro a code

MECHANIC says he has to replace the entire throttle body for $600. Is this for real?
