Gas milage question

Asked by fortyrobo Dec 09, 2011 at 12:36 AM about the 2004 Saturn VUE V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 04 Vue  v6 is getting worse gas mileage after I changed the plugs, the originals lasted 160k Any ideas? I don't want to replace the coil packs they are $55 each.

Here is the weird thing, I get better highway mileage 28 (with new plugs), use to get 25. Around town was 22 (with old plugs), now its 18 - 20 mpg.

Thank you!
Robert

same answer you probaly switched to colder plugs, there are charts that will guide you according to the color of deposits on the plug as whether you need to switch to a "colder" or "hotter " plug. Most auto parts stores have these charts, they are supplied by the plug manufacturers.
