won't run in drive 2

Asked by APH48 Jan 17, 2017 at 11:20 AM about the 1995 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT 4WD SUV

When in drive 2 going up a small slop the trans feels like it is in neutral and slipping, then goes back into gear. All other gears, D, D1, and R work fine.
