no lights, signals, windows or top when engine is running

1997 900 s can ignition switch cause electrical problems as follows: first no electric windows but starts OK. Then no windows or convertable top and no headlights or turn signals but dash and radio works fine when battery OK and engine running. Then battery OK but not starting with forementioned not working. It was the ignition switch. It didn't automatically return from start to run position. This also wrecked the starter.
