Car won't crank over

Asked by Dschnell1977 Sep 01, 2017 at 06:56 PM about the 1990 Pontiac Firebird Formula

Question type: General

I have a 1990 firebird formula. We switched from
Tpi to carburated. We took out the computer and
rewired it. We got the fuel pump to turn on my
wiring it separately. I turn the key but nothing
happens. It don't crank over. There is power when I
turn the key on. The radio turns on and the temp
gauge goes funny but nothing else. It has a new
starter and coil. I'm all out of ideas. We
disconnected the neutral safety switch but that
didn't help either. Any ideas?

Yeah I think you really need professional advice, you opened up Pandora's Box because I believe you have a body control module and the car has a computer I think it's one of the first series computers that they had for vehicles back then that you have to contend with that might be both interfering with what you've done so it might be that you have to get your car's computer reprogrammed at the minimum I'm not sure you might want to get some more advice on this one search the internet there might be companies out there that reprogram your computer and know exactly what you have to do in your particular situation?

I was thinking, but might be wrong, that there was an anti theft system prior to VATS. Might be worth a look.
