You can replace the camshaft position sensor, but it is also possible that the cam has actually jumped the timing belt. This will almost always result in the engine timing being 'over-advanced'. If the car is high-mileage, and never had the belt replaced, that would be a good place to start. But be prepared to replace the belt tensioner and camshaft position sensor also.
