Battery draining

I have a 1997 Pontiac Firebird 3.8 when I accelerate
the car the battery tends to drain when I stop
accelerating the battery goes back to normal any
ideas of what it could be???

Could be an intermittant ground fault in the ignition circuit, but most likely the voltage regulator went out in your alternator. Check the voltage with a meter while someone revs the engine slightly say 3000 rpm. watch what the voltage does. if it goes up beyond 14 volts or below 12.5 volts, you need a new alternator.
