Do a ( Exhaust System back pressure test ) you can get this kit at most parts stores. If your catalytic converter is clogged will cause the same problems you are having with your vehicle.

I have a 2008 Pontiac G6 GT 3.5L - 160,000 miles. Check engine light came on, codes were : P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency (Bank 1) P0101 MAF Sensor Performance P0496 EVAP System No Flow During Purge My car deteriorated within a week. It would not accelerate past 40mph when pushing the pedal, it would increase slowly to 60-65mph on its own slow pace. A couple days later, it went from 60 to 40mph and had a horrible smell. Towed to a shop, there was an exhaust restriction. Ended up being the large catalytic converter. It was clogged (due to the guts of one of the small ones blowing out into it from what I understood). I hope this helps. This car has been a nightmare, leaks, electrically going haywire, etc.

My wife bought a 2008 G6 and it drove fine. After a while, it started losing power. Check engine light was on so she took it to Autozone. It spit out a TON of codes! They said it was the ECM. So i bought one and it had to be programmed at the Dealership. When i picked it up, they said there was nothing wrong with the old ECM. I couldn't return it because it was programmed and installed. It still had a loss of power when they test drove it. They said it seemed to be a catalytic coverter problem. I am going to change the front Cat and Oxygen sensor. If it doesn't fix it, i will change the rear Cat and Oxygen sensor. Hopefully i will have some good news for you guys.

My problem ended up being a short in the wiring harness...cleaned and spliced the bad wiring and not a problem since. I can't say it was an easy find, though.

Mine turned out to be a clogged Catalytic Converter. Put new one on with new O2 sensor. Works great!
