Highlander hybrid driven 135 km. and then would not start after 1/2 hr.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
we drove to a funeral in Sarnia On. and my 2020 Highlander Hybrid would
not start after the ceremony. Message about parking brake and another
about key fob. ended up having CAA tow back to Toyota in Woodstock and
then having to catch a taxi back for the three of us. ( just a little costly)
Brakes would not release even after we got the transmission into neutral with
the emergency screwdriver trick, so had to drag it on to the roll deck.

Ah, hybrids are the answer to everything. It would be nice, however, if designers and mechanics knew how to make ALL the features as reliable as the more common cars. There's likely just a computer glitch causing this; could even be as simple a a dead battery in the key fob.
thanks. I had just replaced Key fob battery ( but that doesn't mean the new one was good). BUT, I do like my Hybrid. Phenomenal gas mileage ( 5.3 L/km ) going to Tobermory and back at 85-95 km. / hr. and very quiet comfortable car/ truck. I did drive over to the dealer on Sunday with my second key fob and that didn't work either. Biggest problem came when service adviser said " it might be a long time getting fixed if it isn't the 12 volt battery or alternator" GROAN!
Now I'm guessing that when you replaced the fob battery, you didn't reprogram the car to the fob. Yes in most instances, that is necessary. Again, read the owners manual.
thanks. I AM an owner's manual reader ( just ask my kids )I will re-read it when I get my car home, just to be sure I didn't miss that step. My second key fob didn't work when I went over on Sunday to make sure that it had survived the trip scratch free.
