One of my childhood friends from 50 years ago took over his dad's tranny shop and I brought my 96 4.0 to him for repair. He indicated my reverse band was broken and required replacing. He also stated in 50 years of repairing and rebuilding transmission he has never seen one in a passenger vehicle which required replacing. On a side note, my 96 is still going strong and has been handed down twice, a nephew still drives it with over 300K miles. Just one tranny fix since then, But it is serviced every 40K miles. For what it is worth.
