Muffler is flaking apart. Any advice on a cheap replacement. What about taping it up?

Also the pipes leading up to the muffler look bad. What are they called and best place to find them. thanks

You can not tape your exhaust it will get too hot and the tape woukld melt. The part of the ex haust that you are going to want to replace is called the cat-back exhaust system

My mechanic replaced mine for $125, he had the muffler and pipe from another Nissan. Look on ebay they have some really good prices as well.

I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima. I think I'm having a problem with the power steering. A few days ago it started making a grinding noise when i turned right, the PS fluid is low, but how do i know if that is the problem or if it's something more serious? The problem is, I am ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS when it comes to cars, car problems, repairs, labor, & fair prices. The other problem is that I'm a young, single mother on a VERY tight budget. 2008 Nissan Maxima 59,000 mi. Began stalling, sputtering, not wanting to go when slowed or at a stop. Then ran hot and steam/smoke began coming out from under hood and through vents.
