1997 Ford Thunderbird car problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Asked by ravage_000 Nov 21, 2014 at 07:46 AM about the 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car has been starting kind of rough, it's almost a screeching sound every time I try
to turn it. On the third turn the car usually turns on. At this point in time I attempt to
shift my car out of park and into drive. When I try to do this it is extremely hard to shift
to drive. But once I do I can shift to gears 1/ 2/ N/ R and D with absolutely no problem.
But the problem starts when it goes into park. Any ideas? Are these issues related?
And you guys have an estimate on the possible costs? Or even if it's a big or small fix.
Any help would be appreciated.

Has this car been in a serious accident? Sounds like there is a slight misallignment that is causing the initial problem. Maybe as simple as a couple of loose bolts. check everything under the car around the linkage and transmission to engine bolts. Tell us the results.
