can you take brakes off one car
and put them on another car of
the same year,make and model

In theory, yes. If one were to do this, it would be important to bring the brake rotors or drums over from the "donor" car. The pads or shoes will be worn into their specific rotor/drum in a very specific way, and no two sets have the exact same wear pattern. You would have to make sure the same pads were on the same rotors in the same orientation. A professional mechanic would likely refuse this job if you wanted them to do it. It just really makes no sense. As cheap as brake parts are at auto parts stores are for most cars, you can get all the parts you need for a complete, safe brake job for not a lot of money.
