I took my car to a local brake shop. They want $129 to run a diagnostic. Am I just being taken advantage of? (Silly woman doesn't know what she's doing...)

Hell yes, Just go to an auto parts store to get the ABS and engine codes read. Then write them down and post them back here. I know its going to have something to do with the wheel speed sensors.

It will take them a hour or so to remove the tires and inspect the brakes so a $100 is not out of line. How can they know what your brother did?

Auto zone will read your check engine light for free. This will give you a good idea of where to start. Hope this helps.
